U19s National Performance player Keira Ritchie is looking forward to a big challenge, but it isn’t on the football pitch! She is preparing for a massive haircut in a fundraiser to support the Little Princess Trust.
On Saturday the 12th of June, Ritchie will donate 30cm (approx 12 inches) of her hair to the Little Princess Trust for use for wigs for those who lose their hair for the treatment for cancer or another condtion. A hair wig provides to help restore their confidence and identity. The cost of producing and fitting wigs can cost more than £700. The Trust relies solely on the efforts of enthusiastic community fundraisers as they receive no formal funding. The Trust’s ultimate aim is to not stop until the research fund ends childhood cancer forever.
Like many families, Ritchie has a personal reason as to why this cause means so much to her:
“My Grandad was a patient at the Beatson Cancer Centre, diagnosed with lymphoma, 4 years ago. he is now an outpatient, recovering well and is now absolutely delighted that he can now start attending my football matches again as he loves watching me play. He is my inspiration towards my donation to a cancer charity as we received excellent care for him when he was extremely ill. I now want to help others who have got cancer to continue on the kind gestures that were shown to my family and donating my hair to a young child going through such a horrific time will hopefully bring some joy.”
The original target was £100, but was smashed quickly to be over £550 now! You can donate here!
