City Lift the Scottish Cup

24th November 2019

Clare Shine's stunning late goal settled a thrilling Scottish Women's Cup final as Glasgow City beat Hibernian 4-3 at Tynecastle.

Champions City clinched the trophy for the ninth time in their history, and for the first occasion since 2015, to make it a domestic double and memorable season after having also reached the Champions League quarter finals just a few weeks before.

The lead changed three times as the action raged from end-to-end.

Hibs took the lead through Amy Gallagher on 31 minutes, with Eilish McSorley firing home emphatically soon after to level things. Leanne Crichton then volleyed City ahead before the break with a sweet strike following a superb ball from Hayley Lauder.

Not long after half time, Jamie Leigh Napier equalised for Hibernian, before an unfortunate own goal for City put the Capital side ahead.

Shine headed City level and, as extra-time loomed, she struck again with a late run into the box before finishing high into the net with an outstanding solo run and goal

The win ended Hibs' three-year grip on the cup and the match broke the attendance record for a domestic women's match in Scotland, with 3,123 at Tynecastle.
