Five star City coast through to semi-finals

A Lauren Davidson hat trick helped put Glasgow City into the semi finals of the SWPL Cup as they beat Partick Thistle 5-0 at Petershill this afternoon.

Davidson’s treple (5 pen, 15, 53 pen) anda late Aoife Colvill brace (79, 83) ensured City’s pathway to the last four was a comfortable one.

Interim head coach Grant Scott made a raft of changes, bringing in the likes of Agata Filipa, Erin Clachers and Ode Fulutudilu to the starting XI for City, as Vital Kats returned to the bench following an injury lay-off.

And it was one of those changes that helped bring about the first goal when Fulutudilu was fouled in the area for a penalty. Scotland international Davidson took charge from 12-yards and made no mistake.

City would double their lead just 10 minutes later when Davidson collected a superb 40-yard cross-field ball from Jenna Clark, cut inside and smashed an inch perfect shot into the top corner.

Despite total City dominance, the score would remain 2-0 at the half time interval, however, it wouldn’t be long before Davidson completed her hat trick, when the youngster stepped up from the spot again after substitute Cailin Michie was fouled in the area.

Colvill would add shine to the result late on when she fired home from clash range to grab her fifth goal of the season - and she would double up only minutes later when she broke free and placed beyond Dalziel to grab her second of the game.

City will find out their semi-final opponents when the draw for the next round is made tomorrow at 3pm.

City: Clachers, Foley, Clark, Walsh (Molin), Agata Filipa, Fulton, Lauder, Farrelly (Michie), Dodds (Kats), Davidson (Colvill), Fulutudilu.

Thistle: Dalziel, Slater, McCulloch, Falconer, Docherty, Mcbrearty, Hogg (Murphy), McDonald(Payne), Smith, Bulloch, Christie.
