Glasgow City are pleased to announce the signing of a long term partnership with performance consultancy Athlete Focused.
The partnership will see Athlete Focused lead on sports science, nutrition and psychology across the entire club, covering all 12 academy teams and the Glasgow City first team.
Commenting, Glasgow City Chief Executive Laura Montgomery said, “This is something we have been working towards for a while. The club has used the services of Athlete Focused for the past year working in particular with Director Andy White as lead sports scientist with the first team, and we dipped our toes into some work with the academy during the first lockdown. I have been nothing but thoroughly impressed with Andy and his colleagues and it seemed the natural fit to formally sign a long term agreement with them to really assist the movement of our current academy to an elite performance academy. We will have sports scientists working with every single age group at the club, along with nutrition and psychology support as we start to build our ideal and sustainable model for the long term future.
“Our partnership also compliments our recent investment in Playermaker technology for the most senior teams at the club, which we believe is a real gamechanger in performance analytics within football, going far beyond the basic GPS stats we worked with before. We believe our new set up with Athlete Focused will be second to none within the current Scottish women’s game and we are excited for what we can build together both on and off the park for the benefit of every single player at our club both now and in the future.”
Dr Andy White, Director of Athlete Focused said, “I'm exceptionally excited about this long term partnership with Glasgow City. The past year has given us a clear insight into their pioneering approach to women’s football and it was obvious very early on that we both had similar philosophies.
“This unique partnership provides us with the opportunity to align the first team and Academy, promote long term athlete development and prepare players for the future. Both ourselves and the club want to champion female footballers and support them to be better on and off the field. With the integration of psychology, nutrition and sports science across the club we can provide a holistic system to develop the person and the player.
“Alongside the short term benefits the players will see from our team of sport scientists we are working to develop a researched based model for sustained development. Our network of research associates and Universities will allow both Athlete Focused and Glasgow City to be at the cutting edge of research in female athletes, building a tailored model for female footballers.”
