Glasgow City supports Social Media Boycott

Glasgow City will cease all social media activity from 3.00pm on Friday 30th of April until 11.59pm on Monday 3rd of May.

The boycott of social media is a united effort in response to continuing racist and discriminatory abuse online aimed at players, staff, supporters and others associated with the game.

We join our fellow clubs in Scotland along with clubs in England in stopping all activity on our social media platforms over the weekend.

Our SWPL match on Sunday against Spartans will have no coverage on social media but you will still be able to watch the match on GCFC TV LIVE and the match report and reaction will be available on our website and Youtube channel. We will have live match updates too on our GCFC Live feed on our website.

Commenting, Chief Executive Laura Montgomery said, “It has been very evident across a number of social platforms the rise in abuse of individuals across our sport and many others. This type of behaviour is being highlighted more and more and is completely intolerable, however it seems to be getting worse and not better. We join our fellow clubs and associations and indeed other sports in uniting together to boycott social media over a busy weekend period for all of us to focus social media companies to do more.”

Our regular content will appear on our social channels on Tuesday.
