Glasgow City secured all three points after coming out on top at the Penny Cars Stadium in Airdrie.

Leanne Ross gave the visitors the lead through a free kick before Rosie Slater found the back of the net for Motherwell. A Mairead Fulton penalty and an Aoife Colvill strike gave City a 3-1 lead at half time before the hosts netted at the start of the second half.

Janine Van Wyk’s low driven finish secured the victory for City.

Motherwell started the game brightly and earned themselves an early corner that came to nothing.

City had a corner themselves that was worked to Shine but her effort was blocked. On the ninth minute, City got the breakthrough.

Davidson’s run was stopped and the referee brought the play back for a free kick and from the resulting free kick, Ross found the bottom corner as Pollard failed to get across her goal quick enough to stop the ball squirming in.

City had some half chances with efforts from the edge of the box that failed to trouble Pollard.

Motherwell got back on level terms just after the half hour mark when Rosie Slater’s cross looped over Erin Clachers and found the far corner of the net.

Motherwell’s joy was short lived as within a minute of getting level, they fell behind. Colvill was tripped in the penalty area and Fulton stepped up and coolly slotted the ball past Pollard.

There was still time left for some first half action as City made it three seconds before the half time whistle after a lovely piece of play by Colvill and Shine was finished off by Colvill.

Motherwell started the second half quickly and reduced the deficit to one within 60 seconds. A cross from the left was only cleared to Hay who fired the ball into the net.

City once again responded with Van Wyk getting on the scoresheet. A corner routine found the South African international on the edge of the box and her low driven strike nestled in the bottom corner.

Pollard was the busier of the two keepers as she denied efforts from Fulton and Clark.

City had the majority of the ball but the Motherwell defence stood firm and restricted the visitors to efforts from distance as the second half went by.

City are next in action on Sunday when we welcome Hibernian to Broadwood Stadium.
