Honours even as City draw with Hibs

Defences came out on top as Glasgow City and Hibernian played out a stalemate at Broadwood Stadium in the first game with supporters back in the stands.

City are now three points clear at the top of SWPL1 with three games left.

Despite their possession, City found it difficult to break down a resolute Hibernian in the first half. An early chance did fall for Priscila Chinchilla when she was gifted the ball on the edge of the box but her effort was saved by Emily Mutch.

It was much more of a tactical battle with Hibernian set up to hit the home side on the counter while City were looking to play more on the front foot.

Hibs got their best chance of the first half just before the half hour mark when they were awarded a free-kick. Amy Gallacher stepped up but her strike sailed high over Lee Alexander’s goal.

An injury to Zaneta Wyne forced Scott Booth into a first-half reshuffle as he brought on Cailin Michie.

Chinchilla then turned provider as she set up Hayley Lauder towards the end of the half but her curling effort drifted just wide of the target.

At the start of the second 45, a nice bit of interplay between Lauder and Jo Love allowed the former to set up Mairead Fulton to hit one from the edge of the area but she couldn’t find the target.

On the hour mark, Chinchilla almost sneaked a long-ranger past Mutch but the Hibs keeper was equal to it.

A well worked corner routine saw Chinchilla find Jenna Clark but she could only direct her header straight at Mutch who saved well.

As time went on, the game became more stretched and Amy Muir’s cut back almost fell kindly for Eilidh Adams but her effort was blocked before falling into the arms of Alexander.

Chances also fell to Clark, Sharon Wojcik and Nicole Robertson but none could find the net.

In the dying minutes, Hibernian thought they might have won it when Muir played Collette Cavanagh through one-on-one with Alexander but the linesman’s flag was up.

Next up for City is a home tie with Hearts on Wednesday.
