Glasgow City’s return to Petershill Park was a successful one as Spartans were beaten 4-1 to secure a place in the Quarter Finals of the SWPL Cup.

An Ode Fulutudilu double along with an own goal and a late Clare Shine strike secured the victory with Rebecca Galbraith getting one back for the visitors.

Both teams started brightly and tested the opposing goalkeepers before City took the lead.

Lauren Davidson delivered the cross and Fulutudilu headed home from close range for her first goal of the new season.

City threatened for a second with Vital Kats and Jo Love both going close with efforts from the edge of the box but the visitors weren’t going to lie down with Tegan Reynolds heading wide from a corner.

Fulutudilu would get her, and City’s, second just after the half hour mark when she was played through and drilled the ball low off the far post and into the back of the net.

Just before the half time whistle City would make it three when Fulton’s shot hit the crossbar and bounced down. A Spartans defender got back to clear the ball away but the referee had judged the ball had crossed the line.

City went in search for a fourth goal during the second half with Rachel Harrison making a number of saves to deny Kats and Chinchilla. Tyler Dodds came off the bench to make her City debut and she almost marked the occasion with a goal but Harrison once again made the save.

Spartans created opportunities themselves with Galbraith heading wide from a corner and Katie Reilly’s long distance shot saved by Erin Clachers in the City goal.

Megan Foley went close as the game entered its final ten minutes with Harrison getting a hand on the ball to deny the City substitute.

Harrison made another great save to deny Clare Shine after some lovely football from City around the penalty area but Harrison would be unable to deny Shine a second time.

Spartans could only clear a City corner to the edge of the box and into the possession of Shine who drilled the ball low towards goal and with the aid of a touch from a Spartans defender, the ball found its way into the back of the net.

The visiting fans were given something to cheer as Galbraith lifted the ball over Clachers as the clock ticked down but it was City who secured the victory and the three points to secure a place in the Quarter Finals with a game to spare.
