Glasgow City started the defence of their SWPL title with a 6-0 victory over Motherwell.

City started quickly with Priscila Chinchilla scoring after 18 seconds before Claire Walsh headed in her first City goal. A double from Ode Fulutudilu before half time was added to in the second 45 by Taylor Fisher and Vital Kats.

City had a dream start when Chinchilla rounded Khym Ramsay to give the home side the lead within the first twenty seconds after Kats had slipped the ball through the Motherwell defence.

The champions were in the mood and doubled the lead a few minutes later when Walsh got her first goal for the club as she headed home from a Dodds corner.

It was City’s first league game back at Petershill Park since 2019 and they were certainly entertaining the crowd with a number of corners before Fisher went close with an improvised effort.

City made it three on the 21st minute when Fulutudilu was played through and drove on goal before rounding the goalkeeper for her first league goal of the season.

The visitors threatened through set pieces with Chelsie Watson heading wide from a free kick and Kodie Hay’s cross finding the gloves of Lee Alexander.

Three became four shortly before the break when Chinchilla lifted the ball over the onrushing Ramsay and into the path of Fulutudilu who had the composure to slot the ball past the defender on the line.

City had the chance a couple of minutes into the second half when Inglis was penalised for handling in the penalty area but Mairead Fulton’s spot kick was saved by the Motherwell keeper.

The home side did make it five shortly after. It was good play by Dodds down the right hand side before her cross found Fisher who controlled the ball before dinking it over the keeper.

City had chances to extend their lead with Dodds going close before the home side found the net when Kats had time to take and touch and place the ball past the keeper. Kats almost doubled her tally but a fingertip save from Ramsay denied the Israeli international.

Kats would be involved again after intercepting Ramsay’s clearance and danced away from the Motherwell defence but her shot clipped the outside of the post and was cleared by the visitors as City secured a comfortable victory.
