Abi Harrison: A Fresh Start In The City That Made Me

Abi Harrison: A Fresh Start In The City That Made Me

Born and bred in Glasgow, this city means so much to Abi Harrison. In joining our club, she has found a place where the city is also a fundamental part of our identity.

In the below piece, our new forward detailed what it means to reconnect with the city she and her family so proudly calls home by signing for the Original Trailblazers.

"Coming back to Glasgow was always about more than just football. It was about being close to family. Returning to the people and the city that helped shape me. Reconnecting with the part of me who just loves the game.

Now, to be a part of this club where the city means so much to our identity... I just get it. I’m a proud Glaswegian. I’ll shout it from the rooftops.

I’ve done a lot of thinking over the years, and I know I’ve still got a lot left to give. I just needed to find the right environment. That’s what this move is all about.

I perform my best when I’m given the space to just be me. I won’t have to pretend to be somebody I’m not at City. Leanne Ross and Leanne Crichton know me. We’ve been competitors for many years before, but now we will build and be part of something together.

It’s about finding my feet again. Rediscovering the love of the game. I want to feel like the five-year-old Abi again – the little girl who started this journey kicking the ball around in the garden with her big brother.

He was as proud as punch when we used to play together as kids. “That’s my sister, he would beam, when someone asked who I was.

So, this isn’t just about me. It’s about family, too.

Anyone who knows me knows I'm a family person. Anyone who is getting to know me will find that out after about five minutes. I wouldn’t be where I am without them. We’re all excited for this next chapter of my career.

None more so than my Gran. She grew up in Springburn. Raised my mum and auntie there. To have a family connection to the area City calls home? It’s special.

My Gran is my best friend, so to have the opportunity to go to and from home games with her and hearing all her stories from every street corner.... That’s something I’ll cherish.

And for me, home is the best place to be. I’m excited to be here. I'm excited to go and show what I can do. Most of all, I’m excited to be somewhere I can be unapologetically me."
