We've always been told to not take up too much space. Don’t talk about your achievements. Don’t make it about yourself. Don’t be difficult. Don’t be loud.
But women’s football was built by people who ignored that advice.
By players who kept playing when nobody was watching. By coaches who refused to give up. By volunteers, photographers, referees, supporters and communities who believed this game deserved more, even when the world didn’t.
But too many of their stories were never recorded and this week we begin righting that wrong with a three-part series highlighting the voices that have helped shape the Glasgow City of today.
Lisa Evans, the SWNT centurion, who shares what Be Louder means to her as we head into a new season. Fiona Laird, one of the members of our first squad, reflects on how taking action is more impactful than just making noise, and Cathie, the cafe-owning fan who knows first-hand that it is never too late to fall in love with football.
Be Louder is Glasgow City’s commitment to building one of the biggest archives of women’s football stories ever created but we can't do it alone. We encourage you to help us build it.
An archive told by not just the famous names but every name. Tell us about the match that changed your life. The team that made you believe you belonged. The barrier you broke. The community you built or felt part of. The person who inspired you.
The moment you realised that football belonged to you too.
Be proud of what you’ve done. Take up space and celebrate your contribution. Women’s football will not grow by people staying quiet. It will be built by the people who refuse to disappear.
Share your Story. Be Louder.
