After securing a second-place finish in the 2024/25 season of the Scottish Women's Premier League, Glasgow City are now preparing to return to the European stage for the upcoming 2025/26 campaign.
Our performance in the SWPL means we enter UEFA Champions League qualifying in the Second Qualifying Round of the league pathway alongside 15 other clubs from 13 different national associations.
The second round of qualifying is a one-venue mini-tournament with semi-finals, a final and a third-place play-off.
The draw for this will take place on Tuesday 24th June at 13:00 BST and will be live on the UEFA.com website.
We will be seeded in the draw with the teams that we could face as follows (FC Minsk and FC Metalist 1925 Kharkiv cannot be drawn together):
Seeded Teams | Country | Unseeded Teams | Country |
AS Roma | (ITA) | Inter Milan | (ITA) |
AC Sparta Praha | (CZE) | FC Metalist 1925 Kharkiv | (UKR) |
SK Brann | (NOR) | Sporting Braga | (POR) |
Manchester United | (ENG) | PSV Eindhoven | (NED) |
Valur | (ISL) | FK Austria Wien | (AUT) |
FC Minsk | (BEL) | FC Nordsjælland | (DEN) |
Glasgow City | (SCO) | Aktobe | (KAZ) |
Hammarby IF | (SWE) |
Arsenal would have been participants at this stage of the competition however their victory over Barcelona in the 2024/25 Final ensures direct entry into the League Phase.
Seven groups of four and one group of three will be drawn, with the highest ranked side in the group of three receiving a bye straight to the final round of their group phase.
Once we find out our opponents, we can look forward to the matches which will take place on Wednesday 27th August before the final/third-place play-off on Saturday 30th August.
The winner of the final progresses from the Second Qualifying Round and would take us through to the Third Round which is a two-legged play-off between four seeded and unseeded teams, with matches home and away.
The draw for the Third Qualifying Round will take place on Sunday 31st August, with the matches scheduled for Thursday 11th and 18th September.
A win over two legs would guarantee our place in the final League Phase, with the women's game now taking the same structure as the men's. Instead of groups, this format will include 18 teams, who will contest six different opponents - half at home and half away.
The first round of fixtures of the main competition begin on Tuesday 7th/Wednesday 8th October and conclude on Wednesday 17th December.
The Europa Cup
If we finish third in our Second Qualifying Round mini league then we would enter the First Qualifying Round of the new Europa Cup, a straight knockout competition with ties played over two legs. The draw for that potential tie would take place on Sunday 31st August.
If we fail to qualify for the UWCL League phase as a losing team in the Third Qualifying Round of that competition then we would enter the Europa Cup in the Second Qualifying Round.
The draw for that will take place on Friday 19th September with the matches then scheduled for 7/8th October and Wednesday 15th/Thursday 16th for the second leg.
If successful, we would secure a place in the Last 16, starting with the round of 16 on Tuesday 11th/Wednesday 12th November and the second leg on Wednesday 19th/Thursday 20th.
