Glasgow City are delighted to announce the signing of England U23 international Charlotte Wardlaw on loan from Women’s Super League champions Chelsea, subject to international clearance.
The 20 year old has captained England at U15, U17 and U19 level and won the 2021/22 Women’s Championship with Liverpool while on loan. Last season she returned to the reds for the first half of the season before joining Lewes on loan for the second half.
She made her Chelsea debut back in 2019 against Tottenham Hotspur in the Continental Tyres League Cup.
Wardlaw is a versatile talented young player who can play anywhere across the backline and as a defensive midfielder
On signing on loan for City, Wardlaw said:
“It’s an honour to join this prestigious club for the season. The ambitions and values of the club align with mine, so I can’t wait to get started and help us achieve all of our goals for the year.”
Head Coach Leanne Ross on her fifth signing of the summer:
“Although only 20 years of age, Charlotte arrives on loan to us from Chelsea with a wealth of experience from the English Championship, WSL and England youth & U23 national teams.
“As someone who can play in a variety of defensive positions, and play them very well, Charlotte will not only increase competition for places but will also add to the strength and depth of our squad for the season ahead.
“In playing a variety of positions, it is evident Charlotte has a good range of technical skills and tactical understanding of the game. Added to this, her bravery and tenacity will strengthen our defensive capabilities.
“It’s great to have Charlotte with us and I look forward to seeing what she can contribute on the pitch in the coming games.”
