Glasgow City ended 2023 with three points after a thumping Petershill Park derby victory.
Doubles from Lauren Davidson and Kenzie Weir with Aleigh Gambone and Lisa Forrest also getting on the scoresheet.
Leanne Ross made two changes from the side that beat Hibernian last Sunday with Emily Whelan and Aleigh Gambone replacing Hayley Lauder and Kinga Kozak.
City started brightly with Kenzie Weir sending a header wide before Lauren Davidson and Aleigh Gambone both testing Megan Cunningham in the Partick Thistle goal.
Emily Whelan clipped the crossbar with a volley and her rebound was saved.
The hosts finally found a way through in the 18th minute. Great play down the left hand side saw Amy Muir motor towards the box where she played the ball across to Aleigh Gambone who tapped home from close range.
One became two immediately after, when Davidson cut in from the right and drilled the ball under Cunningham.
The home side were looking strong and almost got a third after a goalmouth scramble from a Lisa Forrest corner before Forrest would find the net. Abbie Larkin’s pass found Forrest free at the far side of the box and she took a touch before placing the ball into the back of the net.
Ten minutes into the second half, Davidson got her second when she intercepted a pass from Cunningham before finding net from the edge of the box.
Cunningham denied Whelan after a great run from the Ireland international with Larkin’s follow-up gathered by the Partick goalkeeper.
City netted a fifth with a quarter of an hour to go when Kenzie Weir tapped home from close range after Cunningham could only palm away a City corner into the centre-back’s path.
Weir added her second in stoppage time when she headed in from Forrest’s cross to secure a 6-0 victory for City.
City start 2024 with a different Petershill Park derby as we face Rossvale in the Scottish Cup.
