Glasgow City started a busy period of seven games in 21 days by booking a place in the Quarter Finals of the Sky Sports Cup with an emphatic victory in Perth.

Four goals from Cori Sullivan, a double from Lisa Forrest along with goals from Brenna Lovera, Lauren Davidson, Anna Oscarsson, Kinga Kozak and an own goal secured the victory.

Following the International break, Leanne Ross made four changes to the side that beat Dundee United in the Scottish Power Women’s Premier League two weeks ago.

City wanted to start quickly against a St Johnstone side that play their football in the second tier and a quick start was exactly what the visitors got.

Lisa Forrest delivered a cross from the right that was put into the back of the net by St Johnstone defender Laura Steedman. The visitors looked for a second immediately but were unable to find a way through a stubborn Saints defence with Brenna Lovera and Aleigh Gambone both denied.

Forrest played a critical role in the first goal and she would create the opportunity for City to double the lead when she was brought down in the penalty area after a driving run into the box. Cori Sullivan stepped up and placed the ball into the bottom corner.

After playing key roles in both goals, Forrest got on the scoresheet herself when she tapped home at the back post just after the half hour mark.

Three became four minutes later when Emily Whelan played a through ball to Sullivan, who cut in from the wing and curled the ball into the far top corner and City made it five before the break when Brenna Lovera scored from close range after a great cross from the right by Forrest.

The home side pulled a goal back when Morgan Steedman scored from a St Johnstone corner but City restored their five goal advantage on the hour mark when Sullivan completed her hat-trick by tapping home Lauren Davidson’s cross.

Davidson would get her customary goal when she scored from the penalty spot after being brought down in the penalty area.

Anna Oscarsson was brought on at half time and she got on the scoresheet for City’s eighth of the afternoon when she headed home a Forrest corner before Forrest grabbed her second of the match when she tapped home from Davidson’s cross.

Sullivan grabbed her fourth of the game and City’s tenth when a long range effort slipped through the hands of Ellie Mitchell in the St Johnstone goal. Kinga Kozak completed the scoring for City when Davidson’s effort was blocked on the line and the resulting clearance hit off the back of Kozak.

The draw for the Quarter Finals of the Sky Sports Cup will take place on Thursday morning.

City are next in action on Thursday when we make the trip to Airdrie to face Celtic.
