Glasgow City continued their 100% record in the Scottish Women’s Premier League this season with a seven goal victory over newly promoted Dundee United.
Emily Whelan scored her first two City goals since joining the club in the summer while Priscila Chinchilla and Lauren Davidson also netted doubles. Niamh Noble also scored her first ever goal for the club with a header.
Eileen Gleeson made four changes from the side that faced Servette on Sunday with Dilan Bora, Whelan, Davidson and Erin Greening all coming into the side.
City started brightly with Davidson’s early header saved by Fiona McNicoll in the Dundee United goal before the hosts found that important early breakthrough.
Davidson cut inside from the left wing before sending a shot goalwards that McNicoll could only palm into the air. Whelan was the first to react to head the ball into the back of the net.
The home side looked for a quick second but McNicoll denied Davidson’s driving free kick.
The second goal arrived for City on the 20th minute. Good play by the home side meant the ball made its way out to the left for Greening to cross the ball into the penalty area for Whelan to tap home her second of the evening.
Two became three shortly after, when Davidson’s cross from the right found the oncoming Chinchilla who tapped home from inside the six yard box.
Chinchilla added her second of the night shortly after the half hour mark. A corner found Claire Walsh who’s header reached Jenna Clark. The captain for the night laid the ball off into the path of Chinchilla on the edge of the box to rifle it into the top right corner.
City weren’t done with the scoring in the first half as Davidson, who already had two assists, got on the scoresheet when Greening’s cross made its way into her path before firing the ball into the net.
The home side started the second half on the front foot with McNicoll called into action to deny Davidson and Whelan.
McNicoll’s evening ended early with just over 20 minutes to go when the goalkeeper brought down Whelan just outside the penalty area. Ellie Mitchell was brought on for the visitors but her first job was to pick the ball out of the net as Davidson unleashed a powerful free kick into the top corner for City’s sixth of the evening.
Davidson had the chance to complete her hat-trick when Kinga Kozak was brought down in the penalty area but Mitchell dived to her right to palm the ball away.
City eventually got their seventh of the night with less than ten minutes remaining when Davidson’s cross found Noble at the back post to head home her first ever Glasgow City goal with her first touch of the match as City made it three wins from three in the SWPL.
Glasgow City are next in action on Sunday when we welcome Aberdeen to Petershill Park for a 1pm kick off. Tickets are available here.
