City lose out in Glasgow derby

By Stephen Bark

A late Jenna Clark goal wasn’t enough as City fell to defeat against Rangers at Petershill Park.

Goals from Rachel McLauchlan and Kirsty Howat saw the away side record a 2-1 win.

City made two changes to the side which lost against Celtic with Bea Prades and Linda Motlhalo replacing Mairead Fulton and Kinga Kozak.

The away side started well and Lee Gibson in the City goal was called into action early, first to prevent Sam Kerr and then McLauchlan.

A good, old-fashioned scrimmage in the box then resulted in Gibson tipping a Kathryn Hill header onto the post.

City’s beast chance of the first half came when Chinchilla broke clear of the Rangers defence and reached the by line. Her cutback found Hayley Lauder but the snapshot was well held by Jenna Fife.

Rangers broke the deadlock when McLauchlan found spaced on the right and rifled a shot beyond Gibson.

City had a chance to pull level before the break when Lauder’s corner was headed up rather than away and Claire Walsh’s overhead kick was saved by Fife.

In the second half, good interplay between Chinchilla and Emily Whelan saw the former played through but her effort was saved.

Kirsty Howat then had the chance to extend Rangers lead but her shot was turned round the post. From the resulting corner, Kerr fired wide at the far post.

City’s best chance of the match say Chinchilla break free on the left before cutting the ball back to Lauren Davidson but she couldn’t keep the shot down.

A corner from Prades almost caught the Rangers defence out but the ball clipped the crossbar.

With four minutes to go, sub Kinga Kozak was fouled 25 yards out. Prades played a perfect ball across for Clark to head home the equaliser.

The game wasn’t over however. Howat broke clear of the City defence and kept her composure to round Gibson and fire into the empty net.
