City narrowly beaten at the Peasy

Glasgow City 0

Rangers 1
McLauchlan 45+2’

A goal on the stroke of half time gave Rangers victory over City at Petershill Park.

Both teams started with attacking intent with Jane Ross forcing an early save from Lee Gibson with a header while City threatened through Emily Whelan with her shot from a tight angle saved by Victoria Esson.

Carlee Giammona struck the crossbar from just outside the penalty area with the ball bouncing the wrong side of the line and Rangers cleared before Whelan was again denied by Esson.

The visiting side looked dangerous themselves with Gibson forced into a good save to tip over Jodi McLeary’s effort.

Luck wasn’t on City’s side again when Whelan’s cross was put on to her own post by Kathryn Hill with the ball bouncing back off Esson but the Rangers goalkeeper was able to grab the ball before it crossed the line.

Rangers took the lead right on the stroke of half time when Rachel McLauchlan’s long range strike found the top corner.

Giammona nearly found an equalizer for City at the start of the second half but her volley was tipped over the bar by Esson while Rangers threatened on the break with Chelsea Cornet forcing a save from Gibson.

The hosts continued to search for a leveler with Whelan’s shot going just wide but it wasn’t to be for City.

City are next in action on Wednesday night when we face Partick Thistle.
