Glasgow City prepared for the SWPL split with an 8-1 victory over Aberdeen.

An early strike from Hayley Lauder gave the home side the lead before goals from Meikayla Moore, Lisa Forrest and Carlee Giammona had City four goals to the good at the break.

A second for Moore and Giammona along with goals for Wilma Forsblom and Aleigh Gambone secured all three points despite Bayley Hutchison’s strike for the visitors.

There wasn’t even two minutes on the clock when City found the breakthrough on a fine spring afternoon at Petershill Park.

Carlee Giammona played the ball to her left where the oncoming Hayley Lauder collected it before placing the ball off the far post and into the net.

The home side wanted a second quickly and Aberdeen goalkeeper Jennifer Currie denied Fiona Brown before saving from a Giammona strike.

Just after the half hour mark, City added a second. A corner wasn’t cleared by Aberdeen and the ball fell to Meikayla Moore inside the six yard box who smashed the ball into the back of the net.

Two became three shortly after when a quick free kick found Lisa Forrest who slotted the ball past Currie.

Giammona had caused Aberdeen problems throughout the first half and she added her name to the scoresheet in stoppage time after finishing off a fine solo run.

The Dons had caused City problems in the earlier league meeting this season and threatened to do so again when Bayley Hutchison scored a few minutes into the second half. Hutchison went close again but was denied by Lee Gibson when one on one with the Scotland international.

Any questions on whether Aberdeen could mount a comeback were squashed with three City goals in five minutes.

On as a half time substitute, Wilma Forsblom linked up with Amy Muir on the left wing before slotting the ball past the goalkeeper at the near post. Giammona added a sixth almost immediately when she smashed the ball from the edge of the box into the top left corner.

Another substitute got on the scoresheet when Aleigh Gambone headed in at the back post from a Brown corner.

Moore added her second and City’s eighth with eight minutes remaining when she turned Muir’s shot from the edge of the box past Currie.

City are next in action in two weeks time when we begin the split with a trip to the Oriam to face Hearts.
