City secure top six with Accies win

By Stephen Bark

Glasgow City became the first team to secure their place in this season’s top six with a thumping win against Hamilton Academical at Petershill Park.

A first half brace for both Priscila Chinchilla and Jenna Clark was added to with second half goals from Emily Whelan and Kinga Kozak as City recorded a 6-0 win against Accies.

City made three changes to the team that defeated Dundee United in midweek with Lee Gibson, Claire Walsh and Chinchilla replacing Erin Clachers, Meikayla Moore and Erin Greening.

They made an almost instant impact as, after three minutes, Beatrix Prades fierce shot was palmed into the path of Chinchilla who made no mistake to open the scoring.

Four minutes later, Chinchilla had her second as she volleyed home Lauren Davidson’s cross.

In 12 minutes, Chinchilla could have had a hattrick but she could only turn Megan Foley’s cross wide of the target.

Accies best chance of the half fell to Kirstie McIntosh whose shot from range was saved by Lee Gibson.

At the other end, Davidson drove into the box only to see her shot saved before Kinga Kozak’s effort was turned over for a corner. From that corner, City made it here as Hayley Lauder’s cross found Clark at the far post for a tap in.

Further chances fell to Clark from a freekick and Davidson who had a shot saved from the edge of the box before City found a fourth. A corner was initially cleared before Whelan nodded it back across goal for Clark to head home.

Both Chinchilla and Whelan had chances to add a fifth before half time but they either couldn’t find the target or were thwarted by a fine save from Nicolson before Whelan struck the post.

City started the second half as quickly as they did the first as Davidson’s cross was swept home by Whelan for 5-0.

They had the ball in the net again when substitute Abbi Grant pounced on an error by Nicolson who couldn’t hold Davidson’s shot but the flag was up for offside.

Both Foley and Grant had opportunities to test Nicolson from range but neither could find the target.

Accies best chance of the second half again fell to McIntosh but her freekick went over Gibson’s crossbar.

City rounded things off when Davidson’s shot was deflected to Kozak who took a touch and turned in the box before firing home number six.
