Class of 2025 Inducted into Glasgow City Hall of Fame

Not only did we celebrate the Glasgow City players of today on Thursday night at our annual awards night, held at the voco Grand Central hotel, we honoured those who came before us by inducting the inaugural Class of 2025 into our Hall of Fame.

Glasgow City has been at the forefront of women’s football and the club that we know now would not exist without the people who believed in the vision of our founders Laura Montgomery and Carol-Anne Stewart.

Once City, Always City has become an important maxim at our club as we sought to show our appreciation to those who have contributed during their time with usand beyond.

That sentiment rang even more true when we looked to acknowledge the individuals who made a significant mark in helping build a City that thrives.

As such, the first five inductees of our Hall of Fame included Jo Love, Leanne Ross, Suzanne Lappin, Emma Fernon and Kath Kimmeteach of whom gave exceptional service to the club.

The Class of 2025 helps remind us of what makes Glasgow City more than just a football club — it’s a legacy. One that will continue to grow, guided by the excellence of those who came before.

Below you can read all about the impact each of the five women have had and continue to have on Glasgow City...

Jo Love

Current club captain Love sits second in City’s all-time appearance makers, with the midfielder currently approaching 300 appearances.

The highly-decorated midfielder – who has scored 99 times for City – first joined the club in 2011 and has gone on to experience much success winning eleven Scottish Women’s Premier League titles, six Scottish Cups, and four League Cups.

She was a key figure for City on the European Stage, helping us make history by reaching the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals in 2014/15 and 2019/20.

Leanne Ross

Ross first joined City back in 2007 and would go on to become our leading appearance maker, our most decorated player and our record goal scorer.

The midfielder – who was also utilised in defence and attack - made a total of 365 appearances for City, scored 264 goals and won 27 domestic trophies during her playing career with 14 of those being Scottish Women’s Premier League titles, seven Scottish Cups and six League Cups.

Ross also represented City on club football’s biggest stage on many occasions, having been part of the squad who reached the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals in 2014/15 and 2019/20.

After calling time on her illustrious playing career in 2021, Ross took on the role of assistant coach at City before becoming our permanent head coach in March 2023 following an interim period where she won 10 out of 11 matches.

Ross – who will lead the side for the 100th time this weekend – soon guided City to a 16th SWPL title in 2022/23 when we defeated Rangers at Ibrox on the final day of the season, becoming the first female manager to win a SWPL title.

Suzanne Lappin

With 261 Glasgow City appearances and 231 goals to boast, Lappin sits fourth in our all-time appearance makers and second in our top goal scorers.

Having been at the club since she was 16 years old, the attacking midfielder made her final appearance for City in April 2015 and signed off with a goal as she scored a trademark header in a 12-0 win against Inverness City.

During her 12 years with the club – which was over two spells as she became one of the first former City players to feature in the Women’s Super League, signing with Liverpool in 2011 and then Chelsea the following season – Lappin played her part in helping City claim 20 domestic trophies: 10 SWPL titles, six Scottish Cups and four League Cups.

In 2014, Lappin scored the winning goal in our famous 5-4 extra-time victory over FC Zurich which sent City to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League for the first time.

Upon retiring in 2015, Lappin soon turned her attention to media work, becoming one of the first wave of women’s football alumni to transition to those sorts of duties away from the pitch.

Emma Fernon

Fernon joined Glasgow City in 2004 from Cumbernauld Cosmos and went on to make 238 appearances and score 55 goals spanning an 11-year period.

The defender – who started her career as a striker – won an impressive 21 trophies during her time with the club, including nine SWPL titles, six Scottish Cups and six League Cups. She was also City’s first goal scorer in the UEFA Women’s Cup (now known as the Champions League) in a qualifying match against Athletic Bilbao.

Since retiring from playing, Fernon has established herself as a successful media pundit in the women’s game in Scotland and routinely appears on BBC’s coverage.

Kath Kimmet

A bona fide Original Trailblazer, Kimmet was Glasgow City’s first-ever manager upon the club’s establishment by Montgomery and Stewart in 1998.

Not only did Kimmet lead from the sidelines in our maiden season, but she would also make 24 appearances as a player and score 17 goals during her time as a player.

During her time as manager, Kimmet guided City to a first league title: the 1998/99 First Division and with-it promotion to the SWPL, where the club have played ever since, recently surpassing 500 top-flight appearances.

Kimmet continues to be involved in football today with the Walking Ballers, ensuring women of all ages have the opportunity to play our beloved game.
