Tonight the club will be in attendance at the annual Football v Homophobia Awards which, for the first time are being held in Glasgow.
Glasgow City are proud of it's inclusive roots and as a club founded by two gay women it felt important for us to be present at an evening that celebrates the power of inclusivity in football.
As part of the gala ceremony, club legend Kat Lindner will be honoured with the Special Award for Services to Women's Football and LGBTIQ+ Academia in Sport.
Kat, who passed away in 2019, was a key figure at the club having arrived from German side FFC Frankfurt, signing for Glasgow City in 2005 and going on to make 173 appearances, scoring 128 times. She also won five league titles, two Scottish Cups and two League Cups but it was not just on the pitch that she left an indelible mark.
Speaking on the decision to recognise Kat, Executive Director of LEAP Sports Scotland Hugh Torrance, had the following message.
''Having the Football v Homophobia Awards in Scotland for the first time gives LEAP Sports a fitting moment to recognise the unique and special contribution of Kat.
Kat was a Board member of LEAP Sports during our formative years and instrumental in creating the blueprint for the organisation we have become today.
This award recognises not only her tremendous football career, but how she combined that experience with her academic achievements and specialist interests in gender, sport and queer theory.
Her particular interests in using cultural and media approaches and representations made hugely significant contributions to both LEAP Sports Scotland and to the Scottish Queer International Film Festival.
Kat was a beautiful soul, and it is an honour to recognise her outstanding legacy to the queer sports movement with this special award.''
Laura Montgomery shared her thoughts on what Kat meant to the club and the wider community.
"Thank you to LEAP Sports for honouring Kat. I hope she is looking down at all of us and proud of the impact she made."
Kat will always be a special part of our club and we are happy to see her legacy still resonate with those aspiring for a fairer and more inclusive world today.
