Davidson double secures victory at K Park

Motherwell 0

Glasgow City 3
Davidson 14’ 89’ OG 69

A Lauren Davidson double helped Glasgow City secure all three points at K Park.

The City winger also played a key role in the own goal after opening the scoring on 14 minutes.

Leanne Ross made four changes from the side that beat Montrose last weekend with Chloe Warrington, Kinga Kozak, Meikayla Moore and Fiona Brown all coming into the starting line-up.

City started brightly with Brown testing Rebecca Cameron in the Motherwell goal early on before Kinga Kozak put an effort wide from a Brown cross.

The visitors were finding joy on the wings with Brown almost getting on the end of Lauren Davidson’s deep cross before the breakthrough finally arrived.

Chloe Warrington delivered a cross from the left hand side which was met by the head of Davidson and the ball flew into the back of the Motherwell net.

One nearly became two immediately, but Emily Whelan’s header went wide while the home side looked dangerous on the break with Gillian Inglis putting an effort wide.

Carlee Giammona scored her first Glasgow City goal last Sunday and she went close to adding to her tally but was denied by a great save from Cameron while Meikayla Moore had the ball in the net but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Motherwell started the second half well with Morgan Cross being denied by good defending from Kenzie Weir before a cross to the backpost found Cross, but she was unable to get her volley on target.

Lee Gibson was then called into action to save from Chelsie Watson’s free kick but despite the home side’s pressure, it was City that found a second goal. Aleigh Gambone won the ball back on the edge of the Motherwell box and found Davidson who’s ball across the face of goal was diverted into the back of the net.

That goal took the sting out of Motherwell and City ended the afternoon with a third as Davidson doubled her tally for the day when a long ball forward was finished off into the far corner.

City are next in action when we welcome Aberdeen to Petershill Park after the international break in the final match before the split.
