DUTCH DEFENDER KIMBERLEY SMIT SIGNS FOR GLASGOW CITY

Glasgow City are delighted to welcome Dutch defender Kimberley Smit to Petershill Park.

The left-sided centre-back arrives from Eredivisie side Excelsior Rotterdam and has a league winners medal to her name thanks to a championship winning spell in Belgium with 2023 champions Anderlecht.

The 24-year-old has signed a two-year-deal and also has experience playing in the United States with the University of Memphis in NCAA Division 1.

Kimberley on signing for Glasgow City:

“The club's impact on the Scottish women’s game is something that I find really exciting and it's an honour to be playing here this season.”

“Leanne and Laura talked to me and explained the club's background, that the club is just for women and that whole story is very cool. Along with the way the club wants to play I felt like I needed to come here.”

Quote from Glasgow City Head Coach Leanne Ross on signing Kimberley:

"Kimberley attracted my attention not only due to her defensive attributes but also her impressive skills in possession whilst playing at centre back."

"Her positioning, pace, aerial ability, and determination to regain the ball will add to the strength of our defensive unit, while her confidence to take the ball under pressure will support the team to build out from the back."

"Kimberley brings good experience from her time playing in the Belgian Super League and Eredivisie. As well as enhancing the physical presence and technical ability of our backline, her maturity and leadership will be a valuable addition to the squad."
