Emily Whelan extends City stay

Glasgow City are pleased to announce Emily Whelan has signed a contract extension with the club.

Whelan has made 69 appearances for the club since joining in the summer of 2022 and was a key part of the side that won the 2022-23 Scottish Women’s Premier League title.

The Republic of Ireland international has scored 23 goals and contributed with 10 assists over the past two years.

Commenting on her new deal, Whelan said:

"I am delighted to continue at Glasgow City. I have loved my first couple of seasons here so far and feel like I have learned a lot.

“I am keen to continue to further develop at this club and I am looking forward to doing my very best to contribute to the team and our aims and ambitions for the year ahead."

Head Coach Leanne Ross said:

"We are all delighted with the news of Emily’s contract extension.

“From the moment Emily arrived at Glasgow City in 2022 it was clear to see the many positive qualities she would add to our squad on and off the pitch.

“I am not sure I have come across a player that works as hard as she does in training or in games, I often wonder where she gets her energy from. It is so important to have players with the work ethic, ability and positive energy Emily brings to our squad. As well as having a huge influence on the pitch, Emily is also a popular figure in the dressing room, whilst her happy and positive nature is infectious amongst the group.

"In her time at the club Emily has excited the fans with her dynamic attacking style of play so I know they will be as happy as I am to know she has extended her stay at Glasgow City. It is exciting to have the opportunity to work with Emily for a while longer and hopefully help her to continue her development and unlock her full potential.”
