Emma Brownlie: Excited To Get Started

It was media duties for summer signing Emma Brownlie on Monday as she represented Glasgow City at the Scottish Women's Premier League launch day held at Scottish Power HQ.

Our No.24 joined players from the nineteen other clubs across the SWPL and SWPL 2 in photos and speaking with journalists ahead of this Sunday's opening day of the 2025/26 season - when we will host Motherwell at Petershill Park.

At the event the defender spoke with us to chat about joining City, a productive pre-season, the prospect of UEFA Champions League football and our ambitions for the season ahead.

How much are you looking forward to the new season?

"I'm really looking forward to it," Brownlie answered. "It's a fresh challenge for me, so I'm going in feeling excited.

"There are a lot of new faces in there as well, we're just buzzing to get started and to challenge on all fronts domestically."

What was it about City that helped you decide to make the move to the club?

"I felt like I was at the stage of my career where I was playing good football, enjoying it, and fancied a new challenge," Brownlie replied. "When City came in, it felt like the right fit for me.

"I'm excited just to go and challenge myself and be in a team that is so competitive in this league."

What are City's ambitions for the season ahead?

"The changing room is full of winners," Brownlie said. "We've got a manager in Leanne Ross who has won trophies numerous times at the club.

"Then, you've got your players like your Hayley's and your Lee's who have been at City for a number of years now that knows what success looks and feels like.

"It takes everyone. You need the quality in the changing room and the mentality of the girls. It's what you do week in and week out to push for the title.

"We focus on what we can do and we believe we've got a changing room that is good enough to go and compete.

"Leanne has brought together a squad that we believe can compete on all fronts domestically. We've been working hard together throughout pre-season and go into the new season looking for success."

City have Champions League football qualifiers to look forward to at the end of the month, how much are you looking forward to that?

"As a player, you want to compete at the highest level," the defender said. "If we were to qualify to the league phase, we'd be pushing ourselves against some of the top clubs in Europe.

"It has been a while since I last played in the Champions League. I'm looking forward to that new challenge.

"You want to be playing in these competitive fixtures and want to push yourself. We're looking forward to going to Vienna, and, hopefully, we can proceed to the next round."

Our season begins this season as we welcome Motherwell for Scottish Women's Premier League action, Emma and the rest of the squad can't wait to see you there!
