Emma Brownlie Joins Glasgow City!

Glasgow City are excited to announce the signing of the latest Original Trailblazer, with experienced defender Emma Brownlie joining the club on a two-year deal.

The 31-year-old arrives at Petershill Park with a vast amount of experienced gained in Scotland, most recently at Hearts, and in England where she played in the Women’s Super League with Everton.

Upon signing for City, Brownlie said: I’m delighted. I’m happy to be here. It is an exciting opportunity for me in the next stage of my career. I’m just excited to go and get started.”

Head coach Leanne Ross added: “I am delighted to add a player of Emma’s ability and experience to our squad.

“A versatile defender who can play full back or centre back, Emma will not only add a physical presence to our backline, but her leadership skills and competitive nature will be invaluable to the team.

“Her composure in possession, range of passing and ability to carry the ball forward also fit perfectly with our style of play.”

Brownlie started her senior career at Hibernian back in 2011 and spent two years at the club before making the move to Celtic.

After a spell in Glasgow, she returned to the Hibees in 2015 and would go on to win three Scottish Cups and three League Cups during a successful second stint with the Edinburgh side.

A move down south then beckoned where Brownlie got her first taste of professional football when she spent six months in Merseyside with Everton, making her debut for the Toffees against Chelsea in the FA Cup.

She would then return to Glasgow and became one of the first female players to sign a professional contract with Rangers. She spent three years with them and was part of the squad who won the club’s maiden Scottish Women’s Premier League title in 2021/22.

Like she did at Rangers, Brownlie would continue to blaze a trail upon a move to Hearts when she became the Jambos’ first full-time professional player in the summer of 2022.

During her three seasons at Hearts, the defender played an important role in the club’s ascent in the Scottish Women's Premier League and captained the side at Hampden when they reached the Scottish Cup final in 2024.

Everyone at Glasgow City is thrilled to bring Emma to the club and we can’t wait to see her excel in this next chapter of her career.
