History will be made on Wednesday night when we host Irish side Athlone Town in our first-ever match in the inaugural UEFA Europa Cup.
A second European competition in the women's game, the Europa Cup will run parallel to the Champions League and will feature a total of six rounds - the first and second qualifying rounds, the round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final – all of which will be played over two legs, home and away.
Our First Qualifying Round clash, sponsored by Keepmoat Homes, sees us host Irish opposition on Wednesday before we make the short trip to Athlone for the away leg which is scheduled for 17th September.
Last Time Out
Our last match on the European stage came in Champions League qualifying when we were beaten 2-0 by hosts FK Austria Wien in the Second Round semi-final.
We come into the match against Athlone off the back of an emphatic 5-0 win against Montrose in the Scottish Women's Premier League at the Peasy on Sunday.
In a professional performance, Abi Harrison scored at home for the first time for City, whilst Lana Golob, Erín McLaughlin and Mebae Tanaka netted their debut goals for the club. Lisa Forrest rounded off proceedings from the penalty spot as we secured the win and became the only side left in the top-flight not to drop points.
Previous Meeting
This will be the first meeting between the two sides.
The last League of Ireland opposition City faced was Shelbourne during Champions League qualifying back in September 2023. Brenna Lovera and Lauren Davidson were on the scoresheet as we claimed a 2-0 win.
