Europa Cup Match Summary: Glasgow City 5-3 (agg 6-5) HB Køge

We recorded another famous European victory at Petershill Park tonight, as we defeated HB Køge 5-3 in the second leg, meaning 6-5 on aggregate, to progress to the Round of 16 in the UEFA Women's Europa Cup.

Køge took an early lead after just two minutes, but City showed great character to get ourselves level by the 10th minute through Abi Harrison.

Emily Whelan scored her second goal in Europa this season to put us 2-1 up on the night at the Peasy, before the visitors restored parity and their lead on aggregate just two minutes later.

We went ahead in the second leg just after the hour when a HB Køge player got the final touch and bundled the ball into the back of their own net following a City corner.

But it would be Køge who got the next goal, making it 5-4 on aggregate in the 84th minute. However, that was not game over.

In true City form, injury time goals from Emma Brownlie and Lisa Forrest ensured a famous win at the Peasy and our place in the next round of the European stage.

Match Action from Petershill Park

There were seven changes made for tonight's match following Sunday's ScottishPower Women's Premier League win over Partick Thistle, with the most notable inclusion being Emma Brownlie, who was making her first European start for City.

It was the visitors who took an early lead and it came from captain Mille Gejl. She was picked out from a corner and buried the ball into the bottom corner.

Their lead only lasted eight minutes as Harrison netted her first European goal for City when she was picked out on the cutback from Nicole Kozlova, and our No.9 did so well to fire it in the back of the net from inside the area.

A good save from Lee Gibson midway the first half kept the score level, as she paled Macy Schultz's effort behind for a corner, which City went on to defend comfortably.

We would take the lead on the night when Whelan headed home at the back post from a ball sent in by Amy Muir, but the visitors would score their second only two minutes later from experienced forward Nadia Nadim, taking the tie to 2-2 in the second leg and 3-4 to Køge on aggregate.

City were let off as the first half came to a close as the fast-paced Flora Lacho was gifted space to drive forwards and unleash a strike, which she sent well wide of Gibson's goal.

Our first opportunity in the second half fell to Lisa Evans when the ball found its way to her feet 20 yards out following a corner, but her shot from distance was hit just over the bar.

And it would be City who got the next goal and it came in the 64th minute. A corner was swung in by Evans and hit towards the back of the net by Smit and went over the line via a Køge deflection by Emma Pelkowski, taking the tie level to 4-4 on aggregate.

In the final 10 minutes of the 90, Køge capitalised on a defensive error and Thygesen slotted the ball into the net, giving them the lead on aggregate in the tie.

But the game was not done yet and we showed such determination to get two further goals, putting us ahead on aggregate.

Brownlie found the back of the net for her first City goal when the goalkeeper punched it out from a corner and deflected off our defender, before Forrest bagged the winner when she headed home an Evans cross.

The result, a place in the next round and mad scenes at the Peasy.
