Europa Cup Match Summary: HB Køge 2-1 Glasgow City

Europa Cup Match Summary: HB Køge 2-1 Glasgow City

Our first leg in the UEFA Women's Europa Cup clash against HB Køge ended in a 2-1 defeat on the night in Denmark, but everything is still to play for in the return leg at Petershill Park next week.

The hosts took the lead through Mille Gejl after 32 minutes, before Amy Anderson vitally pulled us level with her second goal of the season, with both coming in the Europa Cup, just under 10 minutes later.

A strike from outside the box from Olivia Garcia saw Køge go ahead on the hour mark, with that being the last of the goals.

With there being just one goal in it, the tie is far from done and we need your support to help us get the job done at the Peasy. Get your tickets for next week's visit of Køge now on Fanbase.

Match Action from the Capelli Sport Stadion

It proved to be a fairly even opening 15 minutes in Denmark before goalkeeper Lee Gibson was called into action, firstly denying Flora Marta Lacho's strike with a diving stop and then collecting Rikke Madsen's effort on the rebound.

The hosts fashioned another opportunity when Avani Brandt swung the ball into the box and found Madsen, but her shot on the volley sailed over the bar.

Gibson made another superb stop when she was alert to smother the ball when it was whipped in and the home side looked to fire it in from only a couple of yards out.

Køge took the lead just after the half-hour mark when Gejl unleashed a strike from outside of the box, with it dropping into the bottom corner of the net.

Our best foray forward came as the first half approached its conclusion, with Lisa Evans putting in a dangerous ball into the area, which was collected by goalkeeper Ema Aleksić to deny Lisa Forrest a header from a few yards out.

And only moments later, we pulled ourselves level. The ball was sent in by Hayley Lauder from a free-kick, bounced around the back post, before being fired in by Anderson - her second goal in the Europa Cup.

In the second half, Køge looked to hit us after losing possession in the final third, with Garcia driving forward before unleashing a strike on the edge of the box, which was comfortably collected by Gibson.

We had a great opportunity when Forrest burst down the left flank, before cutting in and driving a strike towards goal, but she saw it saved by the Køge goalkeeper.

But it would be Køge who got the second goal, with Garcia seeing her strike soar into the back of the net beyond Gibson, who could do nothing about the goal, from 20 yards out.

It could have been a quickfire double for the home side, but Gibson pulled off another good save, this time pushing Jereko's strike over the bar and onto the roof of the net.

We pushed for an equaliser and went close when Nicole Kozlova, a former Køge player, forced the goalkeeper into a diving save at her near post, before Sofia Määttä saw her effort on the rebound deflected into the side-netting.

There proved to be no further goals in the second half, as it finished 2-1, with the Danes taking only a one-goal advantage to Glasgow next week.

Our next matches see us host Partick Thistle in the SWPL, before the return visit of Køge in the European second leg. Get your tickets for both games at the Peasy on Fanbase now!
