FINLAND YOUTH INTERNATIONAL SOFIA MÄÄTTÄ COMPLETES MOVE TO GLASGOW CITY

Glasgow City are delighted to welcome 19-year-old Finnish youth international Sofia Määttä on a permanent basis following a six month loan spell at Swedish second tier side Umeâ.

Originally signed on a pre-contract at the start of 2024 Sofia has signed a three-year-deal with the club. During her spell in the Elitettan Sofia featured in every fixture, scoring on three occasions and left the Swedish side second in the table.

As well as being a talented footballer she is also a former Finish 100m, 200m and Long Jump junior champion and joins fellow Finnish youth international Wilma Forsblom at Petershill Park.

On making her move to Glasgow permanently Sofia had the following to say:

“I think this is a very successful club and it’s a really good place for a young player like me to be. Hopefully I’ll get in a position to help the club challenge for trophies.”

Quote from Glasgow City Head Coach Leanne Ross on signing Sofia:

"Sofia is a talented young player with pace, game intelligence and technical ability which can add excitement to any game. Her speed and dribbling ability mean she can positively impact games from a wide position, delivering dangerous balls into the box or using her pace and skill to evade opponents and score goals.”

"I am very happy Sofia has chosen to sign for Glasgow City and recognises this as an environment where she can play with freedom while learning and developing from the experienced players we have in the team. I have no doubt she will entertain the fans with her exciting and direct style of play and ability to create and score goals."
