Glasgow City booked their place in the Quarter Finals of the Scottish Cup with a 5-0 victory over Aberdeen at Petershill Park.
An early strike from Priscila Chinchilla before a double from Mairead Fulton, a debut goal for Miracle Porter and a Sophia Martin effort secured a place in tomorrow’s draw.
Leanne Ross made four changes to the side that beat Hearts in midweek with Erin Clachers, Beatriz Prades Insa, Linda Motlhalo and Anna Oscarsson coming into the side with Oscarsson making her debut for City.
The home side started brightly with a number of early opportunities. Amy Muir’s strike from distance crashed off the crossbar but bounced the wrong side of the line from a City perspective. The loose ball was only cleared for a corner and Jenna Clark’s effort went just wide.
An early goal was coming and on the sixth minute, it arrived. Lauren Davidson’s cross from the right wing found Chinchilla, who was rushing into the penalty area at the back post, to volley the ball past Annalisa McCann in the Aberdeen goal.
Chances were few and far between in the opening 45 minutes with Clark headed wide from a corner and Davidson hitting the side netting the two main chances for the hosts.
City started even quicker in the second half and needed less than two minutes to double the advantage. Kinga Kozak laid the ball off to half time substitute Fulton who fired the ball low into the bottom corner from the edge of the penalty area.
Fulton would add her second of the afternoon just over 15 minutes later when Chinchilla danced into the box before playing the ball back to Fulton who’s low effort went past the diving McCann in the Aberdeen goal.
The home side were hungry for more with Clark heading off the post before Miracle Porter was brought on by Leanne Ross for her debut. Four minutes later, Porter was on the scoresheet. Fulton’s free kick was delivered into the heart of the Aberdeen penalty area and was met brilliantly by Porter who headed the ball past McCann.
Four became five shortly after as Martin volleyed the ball into the back of the net from just inside the penalty area after good work from Fulton and Kozak to set up the chance.
The visitors looked for a late consolation but Francesca Ogilvie put her shot wide from Loren Campbell’s cross but it was Glasgow City who booked their spot in the Quarter Finals of the Scottish Cup.
The two sides meet again in two weeks time up north in the Scottish Women’s Premier League while the Quarter Final draw will take place tomorrow at 5.30pm.
