Glasgow City treated a bumper Petershill Park crowd to a homecoming victory as goals from Emily Whelan, Sofia Määttä and a first in City colours for Rammie Noel secured a 3-0 victory over old rivals Hibernian to move Leanne Ross' side into second spot in the SWPL table.
Lee Gibson captained the home side on her 250th appearance for the club and there was also a first start of the season for Mairead Fulton in midfield. However, it was last week's goal scorer Emily Whelan who would have the 501 strong crowd celebrating with less than a minute on the clock, as the Irish forward picked the ball up on the edge of the area before firing into the top corner.
City would nearly double their lead just before the half hour but Nicole Kozlova was unlucky to have been ruled offside after good pressing from Määtta had supplied the Ukrainian forward.
The home side would continue to dominate the play but it wouldn't be until the 84th minute where victory would be secured. Good work from substitute Brenna Lovera saw Määttä capitalize on a loose ball from Hibs keeper Noa Schumacher, with the Finnish winger netting her seventh of the season from close range.
With City starting to purr Lovera was again the instigator.
Some neat passing and nifty footwork in the defensive third released the American forward who unselfishly squared it to her compatriot Noel to score the Louisiana native's first goal for the club.
City now head into next week's Sky Sports Cup tie away to Hearts looking to continue to build on the momentum of recent weeks as the pursuit for silverware continues.
