Glasgow City returned to the top of the Scottish Women's Premier League with a dominant 3-0 victory over previous leaders Rangers on a day where Polish midfielder Natalia Wróbel scored claimed a hat-trick.
Leanne Ross made two changes from the side that drew 0-0 with Hearts midweek as Aleigh Gambone and Brenna Lovera came in for Amy Anderson and Lisa Forrest on a day where every player in City colours played their part, in front of a vibrant City following.
Both Wróbel and Lovera would go close as the early stages produced few clear cut chances before it exploded into life with forty-one minutes on the clock. Rangers keeper Jenna Fife was unable to clear her lines on the edge of the area and Wróbel was quickest react, lifting the ball into an empty net with a scrambling Kathy Hill unable to clear.
Rangers were struggling to keep up with the home side and made two changes at the break as they tried to turn the tide but Wróbel would again be on the mark to double City's lead. The midfielder capitalising on a loose ball to smash the ball home after good work from Emily Whelan on the wing.
Two would soon turn to three as an effervescent Wróbel showed nimble feet on the edge of the six yard box to evade two Rangers defenders before swinging the ball low into the bottom corner.
The visitors had no reply and on the rare occasion they found themselves within sight of Lee Gibson's goal the commanding Smit and van Diemen were there to thwart any comeback hopes.
In fact it would be City who nearly added a fourth through Lovera but Fife made a superb point blank save to deny the American striker as the new league leaders comfortably closed out the game.
We now round out the calender year next Sunday and home to Dundee United, tickets for which can be bought here. See you there.
