Glasgow City 7-0 Dundee United - Match Summary

Glasgow City end 2024 top of the Scottish Women's Premier League as a 7-0 victory over bottom of the table Dundee United extended our long unbeaten run at a blustery Petershill Park.

There were four changes from the side that defeated Rangers last week with Ava Easdon, Katie Lockwood, Amy Anderson and Lisa Forrest all returning to the starting line up as the squad rotated following a demanding Christmas run-in.

City would dominate throughout although it wasn't until the 20th minute that the deadlock would be broken when captain for the day Amy Muir let fly from the edge of the area to score her second goal of the season.

United were game but found it hard to get off the back foot and the pressure continued with a second City goal coming eight minutes later. Good work from Nicole Kozlova found Lisa Forrest in the centre of the penalty box, the Scotland youth international finishing coolly to double the home side's lead.

It was soon three, as defender Samantha van Diemen looped a header from a Lockwood corner into the postage stamp before American striker Brenna Lovera got in on the act to make it four.

Lockwood would go from provider to scorer as the hosts moved five clear before the interval. The English midfielder reacting quickest to a scramble inside the six yard box to poke home following another City corner.

It was more of the same in the second half and Lockwood added her second, and City's sixth of the game in the 51st minute, again reacting quickest to nudge the ball home from close range after her initial effort was saved.

City perhaps saved the best until last though as a sumptuous cross ball from Muir was volleyed home by Forrest at the first attempt on a day where the wind played havoc throughout.

There would be more chances but the tally would remain at seven as City ate up the goal difference disadvantage they faced on their title rivals at the start of the day. Seven goals and three points sending City fans home full of festive cheer ahead of a big second half of the season to come.
