Glasgow City 8-0 Queen's Park - Match Summary

Glasgow City continued to build momentum in the Scottish Women's Premier League title race courtesy of an 8-0 victory in the sun over city rivals Queen's Park at K Park.

Leanne Ross brought in Brenna Lovera for her first start since returning from injury while Lisa Evans was handed the armband as City looked to make it four SWPL wins on the spin.

With ten minutes on the clock the home side would get the opening goal as Polish international Natalia Wróbel scored her third goal of the season bundling in from close range after good work from Sofia Määttä.

City would continue to press a well organised Spiders side, managed by former Glasgow City academy coach Craig Joyce, and it wouldn't be until just before half time that a second goal would come as an unmarked Lisa Forrest headed home from a Samantha van Diemen cross; a first of the season for the Scotland youth international.

Leanne Ross made two changes at half time as City searched for a ruthless streak up top with Lovera, who had gone close on a number of occasions including a short range effort off the post, and Forrest were replaced by Nicole Kozlova and Emily Whelan.

Those changes helped City hare out of the blocks and a third goal was added on the 50th minute when Kozlova converted a penalty after Chloe Warrington was brought down inside the area.

That goal sparked a frenzy with five goals scored inside fourteen minutes as Määttä continued her strong start to life in the SWPL with a quick fire double; the second a beautifully crafted effort that kissed the underside of the crossbar before hitting the back of the net.

The industrious Aleigh Gambone would then add a sixth from the edge of the area before Kozlova would round out the scoring, adding a seventh a minute later before completing her hat-trick with a couple of minutes to go. Taking her season tally to six as she headed home a Lisa Evans cross from close range.

Despite the score line City will feel they should have had more with a Warrington effort from range that crashed off the bar the pick of the chances but it would finish on eight as we now prepare to return to K Park to face Motherwell in SWPL action next Sunday.
