Glasgow City 3-1 Celtic - SWPL Summary

Glasgow City claimed another important three points in their bid for the Scottish Women's Premier League title as we defeated Celtic 3-1 in our penultimate home match at Petershill Park this season.

A first-half brace from Nicole Kozlova and a strike from Brenna Lovera had City 3-0 up at half-time, before Lucy Ashworth-Clifford pulled a goal back for Celtic in the 54th minute.

There was a first start since her return to Glasgow City for Linda Mothlhalo as she was one of two changes made to the starting XI, with Kozlova also introduced.

It was a positive start for City with our first opportunity arriving early on when captain Hayley Lauder sent a dangerous cross into the box, which had to be tipped away by Celtic goalkeeper Kelsey Daugherty.

At the other end, the visitors won a free-kick following a Samantha van Diemen handball 20 yards out from goal. Maria McAneny looked to send the setpiece goal wards, but she was denied by some brave defending from Lovera, who blocked it with her face.

A massive save from Lee Gibson soon denied Celtic a certain opener, as the City goalkeeper made herself big to cut out Murphy Agnew's strike before smothering the rebound.

And only moments later, we would take the lead when Kozlova raced into the left side of the box and did so well to unleash a shot from a tight angle that dropped into the back of the net.

It was 2-0 six minutes later as Kozlova claimed her brace. Lovera did ever so well to latch on to a poor clearance from Celtic's Daugherty before selflessly teeing up her forward partner, who fired it home.

Kozlova should have had her hat-trick on the stroke of half-time after Lisa Evans cut the ball back to our No.19, but she was denied by Daugherty, who made a good save from close range.

She may not have got our third, but Lovera did before the first half was up. The American forward capitalised on another mistake from Daugherty and showed great composure to finish it inside the box.

Inside the first 10 minutes of the second half, Celtic pulled a goal back when substitute Kit Loferski found Ashworth-Clifford in the box, and she tapped it in at the back post to make it 3-1.

It proved to be a more even half with the visitors having a couple of chances, but City saw out the game well and also created opportunities of our own, with a free-kick being our best effort.

We return to the Peasy for our final home match of the season on Sunday 18th May, hosting Hearts. Get your ticket here
