We can today confirm the players who will be leaving Glasgow City following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.
As already announced, Fiona Brown and Megan Foley have decided to retire from their respective illustrious careers in football at the end of the campaign.
Club captain Jo Love, Brenna Lovera, Aleigh Gambone, Claire Walsh, and Mairead Fulton will all depart City upon the expiration of their respective contracts.
Chief Executive Laura Montgomery said: "Every player who represents Glasgow City becomes a part of our history and these departing players are no different.
"No matter how long they have been here, they have contributed to our story in their own way and that will always be valued at our club. We would like to thank all the departing players and wish them well with whatever comes next. Once City, Always City."
Jo Love
Club captain Love sits second in our all-time appearance makers, with the midfielder leaving City just shy of 300 appearances.
The former Scotland international, who is her country’s most-capped outfield player, scored 99 times for City and is one of our most decorated players having won 11 SWPL titles, six Scottish Cups and four League Cups.
She played a pivotal part in our European success, helping the club reach the Champions League quarter-finals on two occasions. In 2019/20, Love scored the deciding penalty against Brøndby which sent us through to the last eight.
As part of the first-ever class, Love was recently inducted into Glasgow City’s Hall of Fame.
Megan Foley
Sitting 10th in our all-time appearance list, Foley played more than 200 times and scored 19 goals for Glasgow City since making the switch from Rangers in December 2016.
The defender, who has been utilised in a number of positions during her City career, leaves the club with an impressive list of honours, including four SWPL titles and a Scottish Cup in 2019.
She won four consecutive titles from her maiden season in 2017 to 2020/21, before becoming a league champion once again in 2022/23 when we defeated Rangers at Ibrox on the last day of the campaign.
On the European stage, Foley also featured in the Champions League and was part of the squad who reached the quarter-finals in 2019/20.
Mairead Fulton
Since joining the club in December 2019, Fulton racked up a 150 City appearances, having recently reached the century-and-a-half milestone, and scored 14 goals.
During her five years, the midfielder won two SWPL titles. The first arrived in 2020/21 amidst a challenging campaign due to the Covid-19 pandemic, before she again played her part in helping us win the 2022/23 trophy.
This season, she featured 19 times in the league as we finished as runners-up and helped the side reach the Scottish Cup final.
Fulton also represented Glasgow City on the European stage, having played many times in the Champions League, including captaining the side in a qualifying match.
Fiona Brown
Brown, who rejoined City for a second spell in early 2024, has decided to call time on a successful career for club and country.
The 61-cap Scotland international began her career at Celtic before making the move to City in 2013. During her first spell, the forward won three Scottish Women’s Premier League titles, two Scottish Cups and two League Cups, and helped the club reach the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals for the first time.
She then enjoyed a successful period in Sweden with Eskilstuna United and FC Rosengård - where she won three league titles and two Swedish Cups, before returning to City on a pre-contract agreement signed in December 2023.
Unfortunately, her first season back at City was curtailed due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury, but Brown remained an important presence in the squad during the rest of her time with the club.
Testament to Brown’s determination and character, she made her comeback from injury in May to make one last appearance for City in our final SWPL game of this season against Hearts.
Claire Walsh
Signing for the club from Peamount United in 2021 after impressing in a match against City, defender Claire Walsh has gone on to play for the club more than 100 times, reaching the century milestone in April of this season.
The Republic of Ireland international won the SWPL with City in her second season at the club when we defeated Rangers on the final day of the season at Ibrox in dramatic fashion.
Walsh made 15 appearances in the SWPL in her final season at City, helping the team achieve a second-placed finish, and reach the Scottish Cup final.
Aleigh Gambone
The American midfielder spent two seasons at Glasgow City after arriving from Danish side Fortuna Hjorring in the summer of 2023.
She made 30 appearances across all competitions in her first campaign, scoring on six occasions and registering three assists.
This season, Gambone took her game to another level as she continued to be a powerhouse in midfield, featuring in all but one of our SWPL matches. She scored six goals and bagged seven assists as we finished second and secured European football in the league and reached the Scottish Cup final.
She was also named in the PFA Scotland SWPL Team of the Year and was named City’s Coaches Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year at our annual awards night.
Brenna Lovera
Lovera joined Glasgow City from Chicago Stars in her native United States in the summer of 2023 and would go on to score 28 goals in 49 appearances across all competitions.
Her first campaign in Scotland saw the forward score eight goals, before her season was cruelly cut short due to a ruptured Achilles.
In 2024/25, Lovera would return to action in early September and scored her first goals of the season the following month: a brace against Dundee United. She scored 18 goals in 27 league appearances in her sophomore campaign at City.
Her goals helped City claim a second-place finish in the league and with-it Champions League football for next season, as well as reaching the Scottish Cup final.
Glasgow City retained list for 2025/26: Lee Gibson, Erin Clachers, Ava Easdon, Chloe Warrington, Amy Muir, Lisa Evans, Kimberley Smit, Samantha van Diemen, Hayley Lauder, Katie Lockwood, Natalia Wróbel, Amy Anderson, Linda Motlhalo, Emily Whelan, Nicole Kozlova, Sofia Määttä, Lisa Forrest, Sophia Martin
