Following this afternoon's draw at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, City will face Sporting Clube de Portugal in the Round of 16 of the Europa Cup.
We reached the last 16 of this season's inaugural competition following victories over Athlone Town and then by beating HB Køge in dramatic fashion over two legs. A stunning 5-3 win on the night in Petershill secured a 6-5 win on aggregate, overturning a narrow defeat from the first leg in Denmark.
Our opponents progressed to this stage of the cup after defeating Swedish side Rosengard 5-2 over two legs in the Second Qualifying Round.
The Round of 16 home leg will be played on 11/12th November, before the second leg on 19th/20th in Lisbon. Further match information and ticket details will be communicated in due course.
If we overcome Sporting, today's draw set out the pathway to the final, confirming that we would face either Ajax or Hammarby in the two-legged quarter-final and either Anderlecht, Austria Wien, who we faced in Champions League qualifying, Sparta Praha, or Young Boyes in the semi-final, which is also over two legs.
