Glasgow City 4-0 Motherwell - Scottish Cup Summary

Glasgow City booked their place in the 2024/25 Scottish Cup final thanks to a 4-0 win over Motherwell at Hampden. It proved to be a comfortable afternoon as we took a 2-0 lead into half-time thanks to goals from Sofia Maatta and Nicole Kozlova, before Katie Lockwood netted her brace in the second half.

For this semi-final, Leanne Ross made three changes from last weekend's 0-0 draw with Hearts at Oriam as Kimberley Smit, Mairead Fulton and Emily Whelan were all introduced to the XI.

We had the first real chance of the match after eight minutes when a Lockwood corner found Samantha van Diemen, who forced Motherwell goalkeeper Emily Mutch into a diving save from close range.

In quick succession, Kozlova only had goalkeeper Mutch to beat but saw her drive saved, before the Motherwell custodian denied Emily Whelan from a strike inside the box.

As we approached the half-hour mark, City were dominating. The next opportunity was fashioned from a corner, which led to Smit's powerful header being well held by Mutch.

The lead arrived soon after when an impressive ball from the right flank delivered by Whelan was met by an incoming Maatta, and she made no mistake in firing it into the back of the net.

It should have been 2-0 minutes before half-time when Kozlova did well to release a shot amidst being hassled by her marker and the goalkeeper, but she was denied by a goal-line clearance from Motherwell's Jenna Penman.

But, Kozlova did get her goal before the first half was up, though, as she showed composure and buried the ball from close range after being picked out by Maatta.

After the break, City maintained their dominance and we reaped our reward in the 57th minute. Whelan registered her second assist of the day as she impressively cut the ball back to Lockwood, who unleashed a powerful strike to make it 3-0.

We had the ball in the back of the net for goal number four only moments later, but substitute Brenna Lovera's effort was ruled out for an offside in the build-up.

It was 4-0 with ten minutes left to go as Lockwood bagged her brace, rounding off a great move. It started with a superb ball from van Diemen, followed by an impressive touch from the goal scorer, who then carried the ball into the box and struck it low into the bottom corner.
