Braces for both brenna Lovera and Katie Lockwood helped Glasgow City to a comfortable 4-0 win against Motherwell at Petershill Park.
With five changes made to the starting XI from our last SWPL outing against Celtic over a fortnight ago, it was City who dominated the early stages.
The first chance fell to Katie Lockwood, one of those five changes, but her effort was saved by a diving Rebecca Cameron. And that effort proved to be the best inside the opening 20 minutes until Mairead Fulton hit a powerful drive along the Petershill Park turf that was smothered by the visiting goalkeeper.
A brilliant ball from Lisa Evans was then whipped into the box and was met by the head of Lockwood, who saw her header collected in the air by Cameron.
After those opportunities, the opener did soon deservedly arrive for City. Lovera powered a header home following a corner in the 27th minute.
It was 3-0 by the 36th minute with Lovera bagging her brace with a superb curling finish after the home side latched on to loose play out from the back by Motherwell, before Lockwood added our third from inside the box after being played through by the American forward.
In the second half, it was substitute Jo Love who fashioned the first opportunity. Receiving the ball, she then turned and fired it goal wards but it trailed wide of the post.
And with her last involvement of the match before being withdrawn, Lovera was denied her hat-trick when her header came back off the post and cleared, before her effort from the resulting corner sailed over the top of the bar.
With 58 minutes on the clock, Lee Gibson was called into action for the first time when she made a routine diving stop to her left to deny a long-range effort from former City player Sarah Gibb.
As the half progress and more changes were made, City maintained control. Substitute Amy Muir looked to get into the goalscoring action but saw her header go wide, before Nicole Kozlova, who also came off the bench, saw a chance saved.
A fourth goal did arrive in the dying minutes, with Muir setting up Lockwood inside the box, and with the latter firing low into the bottom corner to wrap up proceedings at the Peasy.
