Glasgow City 0-3 Rangers - Scottish Cup Final Summary

Glasgow City 0-3 Rangers - Scottish Cup Final Summary

Our Scottish Cup campaign and season ended in defeat as we lost out 3-0 to Rangers in the final at Hampden. Mia McAulay and a Kirsty Howat brace secured the trophy for our opponents.

Inside the opening ten minutes, Natalia Wróbel hit a low drive from inside the box, which called goalkeeper Jenna Fife into action.

At the other end, Rangers also went close with McAulay getting on the end of a long ball forward and hitting the post with her resulting strike.

Rangers hit the woodwork again when Kathryn Hill met a free-kick in the box and saw her header bounce off the top of the crossbar before going out of play.

And then it was our time to rattle the bar, and it was Nicole Kozlova's strike which saw us almost claim the opener. It came from good play from Sofia Määttä, who linked up with the Ukrainian international.

McAulay gave Rangers the lead after 25 minutes when they broke on the counterattack and the forward buried the ball into the bottom corner beyond Lee Gibson.

Their lead was soon doubled through Howat, who turned her marker and fired a strike into the back of the net, and she would score again early on in the second half for Rangers' third when she tapped the ball home from close range.

We fashioned a great opportunity to get a goal back with 20 minutes to go when Brenna Lovera squared the ball across to Kozlova, but the forward missed the target and hit her shot wide.

With 10 minutes left to play, City were reduced to 10 players as Samantha van Diemen was sent off after a VAR check for a foul on Camille Lafaix.
