It was a difficult Wednesday evening for Glasgow City as we suffered a 2-1 defeat to Rangers at Petershill Park. Brenna Lovera had put us ahead in the eighth minute, before goals in either half from Kirsty Howat and Rio Hardy saw the visitors claim all three points.
Leanne Ross made four changes to the starting XI from Sunday's 4-0 win against Motherwell, with Kimberley Smit, Amy Muir, Hayley Lauder and Nicole Kozlova all introduced.
It took City only eight minutes to take the lead and it was Brenna Lovera who scored her fourth goal in three SWPL games.
The move started with a superb ball from Aleigh Gambone which found Katie Lockwood. The midfielder then picked out Kozlova at the back post, before she teed up Lovera, who fired it in from close range.
The visitors looked to respond quickly but Brogan Hay was denied at the near post, before Camille Lafaix hit a shot over the bar. There was also some impressive defending from Samantha van Diemen.
We could have made it 2-0 as we approached 30 minutes after some more nice football. The ball fell to the feet of Lockwood, but she hit her shot just wide of the target.
Rangers scored the equaliser in the 31st minute through Howat. She unleashed a strike from 20 yards out which found the back of the net and making it 1-1, which it remained going into half-time.
Early on in the second half, Lee Gibson made a top stop to deny a sure goal for Rangers, as our goalkeeper pushed Kirsty MacLean's strike over the bar with her fingertips.
It would be Rangers who struck first in the second half just after the hour mark. We fail to clear our lines and the forward buried the ball beyond Gibson.
Substitute Sofia Maatta came so close to netting the equaliser for City but the Finnish international's dinked effort was not lofted enough to beat Jenna Fife in the Rangers goal.
In the dying minutes, we had the ball in the back of the net following a stramash in the box from a free-kick, but Smit's effort from close range was ruled out for offside.
