We today announce the strengthening of our partnership with local charity Glasgow Women's Aid as we support the launch of their 'He Loves Me Not' campaign.
This new initiative follows on from our #NoExcuse campaign which aimed to highlight the global drive, led by UN Women, to end all violence against women and girls by 2030.
On that occasion players and staff at the club wore specially designed warm up t-shirts which were then signed by the squad and sold to raise funds for the organisation who have been supporting women and girls in the city we call home for over 50 years.
This conversation though is far from over.
The 'He Loves Me Not' campaign challenges the traditional notions of love and romance, highlighting how these ideals can be manipulated to mask coercive control. While Valentine’s Day is often portrayed as a celebration of love, for many it can be a painful reminder of the ways in which love has been used as a tool for control, manipulation, and abuse.
To announce the campaign, this week representatives from Glasgow Women's Aid visited training to meet the squad and share the message ahead of Friday night's Scottish Women's Premier League contest against Celtic.
The campaign message will be present both in our matchday magazine, distributed free to supporters, and with LED messaging throughout the game, broadcast live on the BBC Scotland Channel, a first for the Scottish Women's Premier League.
CEO of Glasgow Women's Aid, Angela Devine was pleased to be continuing the partnership.
"The partnership between Glasgow Women's Aid and Glasgow City FC for the 'He Loves Me Not' campaign is a powerful statement of solidarity and shared commitment to combat violence against women and girls. By harnessing the visibility of Glasgow City FC, 'The original trailblazers for women and girls in football', we can raise much-needed awareness and reinforce the message that there is no justification for abuse."
Laura Montgomery, Chief Executive at Glasgow City, also had the following to share about the campaign.
''The responsibility to use our platform to highlight issues that affect women and girls is one we take seriously.
Partnering with Glasgow Women's Aid on their 'He Loves Me Not' campaign not only strengthens our partnership with a local charity that puts these groups at the heart of what they do, but it also reinforces our message that there is no excuse for violence against women and girls.
We will continue to strive for a fairer and safer world for all.''
The 'He Loves Me Not' campaign, aims to reshape the conversation around love, making it clear that true love is built on respect, trust, and equality - not fear, control, or manipulation.
This Valentine’s Day, we stand with survivors and remind everyone that love should feel safe, not suffocating.
