We were delighted to welcome families from Kids in Mind as flagbearers for our home ScottishPower Women's Premier League victory over Motherwell this past Sunday.
Kids In Mind support women and children that have been the victims of domestic abuse and are living in refuge. Some of them have experienced significant trauma and the charity support these families with counselling, therapy, trauma recovery, toys and where possible days out giving children positive new experiences and empowering them to believe that anything is possible.
Mark Hillyard, Fundraising Lead for Sport at the charity was delighted to be able to work with the club in showing the children role models to look up to both on the pitch and off it throughout the day.
''It was our first event with Glasgow City and I do not think it could have gone better, the experience had by everyone was positive and the children and their mums were fully kitted out by the end of the game so hopefully the club have found some new supporters as well.
''I watched every player come and interact with the children in line waiting as they came onto the pitch. They are a credit to your football club and in doing so every child felt special and loved.
Without the support of clubs like Glasgow City many children would simply never have the opportunity to go to a game let alone be made to feel welcome and valued. What they helped to do means so much.''
Along with welcoming the players onto the pitch as part of the best matchday in Scottish women's football the children were also treated to free face-painting and sign-making with players taking the time to take photos and sign autographs at the end of the game.
We loved having them with us and we look forward to welcoming them back to our home soon.
