During Sunday's Scottish Cup tie against Partick Thistle, the players and staff of Glasgow City Football Club wore specially designed t-shirts in support of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence led by UN Women. Players also wore orange wrist tape in solidarity as we secured a spot in the Scottish Cup Fourth Round.
We currently live in a world where a woman or girl is killed every ten minutes. This has to stop, and each t-shirt worn highlighted a statistic in relation to violence against women and girls. We have listed those statistics below.
- 1 in 3 women experience violence throughout their lifetime.
- 50% of countries lack laws prohibiting discrimination against women.
- Fewer than 40% of women who experience violence seek help of any sort.
- Over 200 million ever married or partnered women face violence from intimate partners.
- 26% of women aged 15+ have subjected to intimate partner violence.
These matchday worn t-shirts have been individually signed by players and staff and are available to purchase via the Glasgow City online store now for £35. All profits from the sale of the t-shirts will be donated to local charity Glasgow Women's Aid.
