Glasgow derby ends in draw

Celtic 2
Own Goal 18’ Hayes 45+1'
Glasgow City 2
Lauder 4’ Wardlaw 59’

Charlotte Wardlaw’s first Glasgow City goal secured a point at the Excelsior Stadium.

Hayley Lauder had given City an early lead but an own goal and a Caitlin Hayes header gave Celtic a half time lead. Wardlaw’s second half effort secured a share of the spoils.

City made the perfect start as Hayley Lauder found the net after only four minutes on the clock. Lisa Forrest and Emily Whelan linked up on the right hand side before the Irish international delivered a cross into the penalty area that was palmed out by Kelsey Daugherty straight into the path of Lauder.

Lauder went close to a second shortly after with an effort going just over the crossbar while Forrest’s header was blocked.

The home side grew into the game with Natasha Flint hitting the post from the edge of the penalty area before volleying the ball over the crossbar.

Celtic grabbed an equalizer when Caitlin Hayes was found from a corner and the ball bounced off the post and back off Lee Gibson who could do nothing to prevent the ball crossing the line.

Hayes gave the hosts the lead right on the stroke of half time when she headed the ball past Gibson from a Flint cross as City were down to ten with Lauren Davidson being injured in the middle of the park.

Charlotte Wardlaw came on at half time to replace Hayley Lauder and would be celebrating her first ever Glasgow City goal 14 minutes into the second half. Another substitute in Carlee Giammona played a great through ball into Wardlaw’s path and the City player finished the move brilliantly by placing the ball in the bottom left corner.

Both sides searched for a winning goal as Emily Whelan rounded Daugherty but the ball had gone too wide for her to get an effort on goal while Gibson saved from a Hayes header as the sides shared the points.

City are next in action when we welcome Hibernian to Petershill Park on Sunday.
