Hayley Lauder's career has taken her to Cyprus, Finland and Sweden, with her latest venture seeing her start a new chapter by stepping into the Glasgow City dugout.
The midfielder has been named our new player-assistant coach, and is now set to play an important part both on the pitch as a player and off it as our newest member of staff.
She has spent over a decade with The Original Trailblazers - there is no denying she is City through and through. One of the many traits which made her a standout candidate for the role.
Having been teammates for so long for both club and country, Lauder shares a strong relationship with head coach Leanne Ross. Something which will be incredibly important to both.
And for our new player-assistant coach, somebody with an impressive football brain - clear to anyone who has had the opportunity to share the pitch with Lauder or to simply talk about the game with, the opportunity to make this transition at this stage of her career with a club she cares so deeply about was an opportunity she knew she had to take up.
“You never know in football,” Lauder said. “I’ve always just thought of myself as a footballer and getting that next contract as a player, but now, I do know that time is running out.
“The thought does come: ‘How else can I stay involved in the game?’ and this opportunity came around sooner than I had expected, but it is too good for me to pass up on. It is something I’m really excited about.
“In terms of how I understand football and how I've played football, I love the tactical side of the game. Improving technically is key to me.
“It’s just a huge opportunity for me and the chance to work with the calibre of players we’ve got here. To do that every day, it is only going to improve me in terms of coaching, communicating and dealing with people day in and day out.
“I’m still here as a player as well, so it’s about balancing that out, too. It’s a lot to adjust to, but hopefully, it will be a smooth transition.”
As she embarks on this new chapter, the midfielder is keen to stress she is still determined to play an important part on the pitch.
Having played for the club more than 250 times, won seven Scottish Women's Premier League titles, two Scottish Cups and a League Cup, her experience no doubt remains invaluable to her teammates.
“It is something for me to figure out,” Lauder added. “I still want to be a reliable person in the changing room, and I always will be.
“I am still someone that is here to compete and here to play, but keep providing that support. I just need to bring my personality and my traits and put it into the coaching side.”
And with this new venture, Lauder is excited to adapt to and learn the demands of everything that comes with her new role. So, what kind of coach might she expect to be?
“I’d like to think I'll be a positive one,” Lauder said. “I like to see the good in people.
“I love the tactical side of the game, I love possession style stuff and everything that we try and do here at Glasgow City aligns with what I want to do.
“I just want to provide good support for the girls and help Leanne with whatever she needs.”
As Hayley steps into this exciting new chapter, her passion for the game and commitment to Glasgow City are as strong as ever. We look forward to seeing her impact, both on and off the pitch, in the season ahead.
