Glasgow City fell to a second league defeat of the Scottish Women's Premier League season as a trio of first half headers secured victory for Grant Scott's Hibernian at a wintry Meadowbank Stadium.
There were two changes from the side that defeated Aberdeen 6-1 last time out with Lee Gibson and Emily Whelan coming in for Scotland youth internationals, Ava Easdon and Lisa Forrest.
There was a also a return to the matchday squad for Finnish winger Sofia Määttä after a spell out injured while Academy prospect Freya Ashmead joined the first-team squad for the first time.
It was a game in which City were always playing catch up as a pair of headers from McGovern and Adams inside the first six minutes had the in-form hosts 2-0 up.
City struggled to get into the game in the early stages although an effort from range by Natalia Wróbel showed signs of life and a foothold would be found with twenty-two minutes on the clock. Brenna Lovera smartly turning in a Whelan cross ball after neat link up play with Lisa Evans down the Hibernian right hand side.
The game settled into a more even contest as the half progressed but a third Hibernian goal, again from the head of McGovern restored the Edinburgh side's two goal lead going into the interval.
The second half saw City dominate territory with the home side looking to hit on the counter but efforts from Muir, Evans and a late van Diemen free-kick failed to trouble Schumacher in the Hibernian goal.
A returning Määttä and Lisa Forrest tried to help turn the game in our favour but a disappointing afternoon in the capital came to an end with no further scoring in the second half.
Focus now turns to the Fourth Round of the Scottish Cup and the visit of Celtic to Petershill Park next Sunday. Tickets for the tie can be bought here now.
