Honours even at Broadwood

Defences were on top at Broadwood Stadium as Glasgow City and Rangers played out a goalless draw in SWPL1.

The result leaves City three points clear at the top of the table.

City made one change to the side which defeated Hamilton Academical the previous weekend with Amy Muir coming in for Chloe Warrington.

Jenna Fife was the first keeper called into action, though not in the usual way. A rouge exercise ball had made its way onto the pitch with the wind whipping up at Broadwood and Fife made a valiant effort to stop its progress before the referee halted play so it could be removed.

Rangers created the first real chance of the match when a freekick from deep found Kathy Hill who headed over the bar.

Chances were few and far between in the first half and Brogan Hay was next to try and test Lee Gibson in the City goal but her drive from the corner of the box was blasted over the bar.

City’s best chance of the first half fell to Priscila Chinchilla who picked up the ball on the corner of the box, turned and tried to catch Fife out by taking it early but the keeper held well.

The second half started strongly for City and Emily Whelan was unlucky not to break the deadlock when she closed down Fife and the keeper blasted the ball off her. It spun goalwards by Hill recovered to clear off the line.

A freekick two minutes later saw Hayley Lauder find Jenna Clark in the box but she couldn’t find the target with her header.

Rangers best chance of the half came late on when substitute Megan Bell’s cross was right on top of Gibson. The keeper managed to pick it out the goal and Clark cleared as it finished 0-0.
